ProgrammeIn an increasingly competitive environment where the quality of product is on an equally high level and innovations are disseminating ever faster, a key to success of business units in service and production is the efficiency of the value creating process. Globalisation and the closer interaction of partners in the value creating chain are options for improvement of the currently established business processes. A big challenge is the strive for global optimum of the value creating chain while maintaining local responsibility for execution, reliability and quality.The Executive Master Program of Production and Operations Management provides the necessary knowledge methods and tools to understand and improve the operation of production and service units by creating appropriate and best-in-class business processes. Since in production and logistics the flow of data, products and money are closely linked, causes on the modules of POM deal with all these three factors. Human resources management is vital to achieve the manageability of those processes, which are needed to set up and operate network and systems that combine data money and material into a product. Project Management on a global scale in particular in multi project environment is a necessary tool to set up and improve operations and structures. The optimization and sizing of the necessary structures for production, warehousing, transportation and information processing is based on mathematical modelling and data exploration. Necessary fundamentals are subject of the courses in operations research. All the above topics are covered in the POM by linking concepts and models in case studies to the experience of participants. The interdependencies of the necessary functions in the supply chain will be constantly addressed throughout the program, bringing everything together in an interdisciplinary, final case study, which will top of the teaching program, preparing you for your Master thesis. People with experiences in production, services, especially logistics, will gain extensions of their professional skills enabling them to understand and manage value creating chains, connecting business units and companies on a higher level of profitability and long term customer satisfaction. Target audienceObjective:The MSc program conveys management skills and economic expertise for engineers who aspire to assume leadership positions within operations management. The course program covers basic knowledge in industrial management with special emphasis on information technology, roduction logistics and human resources. The technical subjects are then supplemented with economics subjects. The participants will learn some of the concepts and techniques available to support the operations management e.g. techniques associated with decision-support and decision-making. Target Group: Young professionals (age 27 - 40) identified as high potentials in the company who have a forseen career path as an engineering specialist with growing responsibilities or as a „generalist“ in the fi elds of development, production, logistics, services, product management or related fields or future engineering executives in production and/ or logistics or plant engineering. Emphases/CurriculumThe Production and Operations Management program prepares engineers to analyze, understand and manage the operations function of a manufacturing or service organization especially in a global context. The primarily technical subjects in operations research will provide the background in order to select appropriate models and rationally assess the decision-making process. OrganisationThe HECTOR School of Engineering and Management, named after Dr. h. c. Hans-Werner Hector, the co-founder of the software company SAP, is the Technology Business School of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT; www.kit.edu).The HECTOR School concept and the related programs were designed in strong cooperation with the industry board of the ID in 2004. This cooperation has contributed significantly towards the creation of six advanced executive degree programs offered at the HECTOR School.
