Target audienceThe aim of this postgraduate course is to allow participants to critically and analytically study the complex, changing, multifaceted character of international business in the modern world, as well as investigate problems, issues and the context in which international business operates. This is achieved by examining both academic theories and real life case studies, as well as undertaking individual research.The course aims to impart a high level of knowledge, analytical abilities and critical understanding of "International Business", as well as providing students with the necessary skills and tools in order to make decisions within an international environment. |

Emphases/CurriculumPart I at the University of Applied Science:
Part II at London South Bank University:
The specific Master's challenge, in part, is in writing the dissertation. The aim of the dissertation is to present an advanced piece of independent research on an international business topic. The research topic should be covered in an interdisciplinary and integrated way in terms of hypothesis, methodology, documentation and presentation of results. |
Practical relevanceTeaching methods in each unit are a mixture of lectures and seminars. Language of tuition is English, even in Germany. Whenever possible, taught units will be supplemented by guest speakers from the business world.A strong emphasis is placed on individual work and self-study projects. Group work is also very important. Larger and smaller groups will work together on projects, which may be taken from outside companies. Results will usually be presented and reported back to the group. |

OrganisationThe MSc IB programme is offered by FH Mainz in cooperation with London South Bank University (LSBU).Short periods of study, international courses and practical orientation – these are the characteristics of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz, at which approximately 4400 students are currently studying. Study in MainzMainz, the capital town of Rheinland-Pfalz with 180.000 inhabitants has an impressive historical past and is over 2.000 years old. As the centre of the Rhein-Main region, Mainz is well-known for its friendliness and cosmopolitan outlook, which is best demonstrated during the carnival season.Mainz is also an important economic base for industry as well as being a significant media centre (ZDF, SAT 1 and Südwestfunk radio and television channels are all based in Mainz). In London, the capital town of Grat Britain, the main campus is situated a short walk from many of London’s major landmarks and the University is at the hub of local transport. Waterloo and London Bridge are some of the nearest stations and the London Underground is on the doorstep. Currently LSBU is investing £47 million into the campus to continue to provide the best student facilities. The first stage of improvements will be completed as soon as 2008. |
