ProgrammeThe LL.M. Finance degree program at the ILF will train you not only to deal with but also to excel in this increasingly important area where the worlds of international law and global finance meet. The program overcomes the traditional separation of the academic disciplines of law and business/economics. It teaches you aspects of both law and business/economics and focuses on their intersection and interplay. Thus, you will gain the competence and insights to appreciate the legal framework, constraints on economic decisions and economic consequences of legislative directives and legal practice. You will be taught by prominent academics and leading practitioners from both areas of expertise. The ILF has a teaching faculty comprising both distinguished academics and outstanding professionals. Therefore, its students from all over the world are equipped with the ideal environment to engage in both the theoretical as well as practical facets of legal and financial education. With its international and interdisciplinary focus on training, coupled with its prime location in Frankfurt, the European financial center, the ILF furnishes its students with the much desired head start in careers of their choice. Prof. Dr. Andreas Cahn |
Target audienceThe LL.M. Finance program is specifically designed for graduates who already have a first degree in law, business or economics from an accredited or recognized university. Therefore, if you possess a first degree in any of these subjects and have outstanding academic records, we would be happy to receive your application.Applicants who have earned a law, business or economics degree by correspondence course work or distance learning are not eligible for admission. As our program can be done on a part-time basis, we have both full-time and part-time students. |

In addition, our students come from all over the world – generally from more than 25 countries each year. The curriculum will enable you to gain both a theoretical understanding as well as a practical insight into the specific requirements of banks and corporations, international law firms and accounting and auditing firms, the European Central Bank and Germany's Bundesbank. This is because in addition to outstanding academics, the majority of our faculty consists of top practitioners from the fields of law, banking, central banking and financial regulation. As an integral and important part of the LL.M. Testimonial from ILF AlumniAoife McCabe, Ireland, Class of 2010, Trainee Solicitor, Latham & Watkins, London“I am confident that my decision to study at the ILF will be the most important decision of my professional career. The program has offered me the type of practical experience and professional contacts that usually money cannot buy. Two aspects of the program in particular make it unique in my opinion. First of all, the ILF internship allows students to get a foot firmly in the door at one of the leading international law firms, banks or institutions which sponsor the program, a feature which is highly valuable to graduates and lawyers facing an increasingly difficult jobs market. Secondly, the program is taught by many partners and practitioners from these world-class law firms and institutions, which allows students to firmly establish lasting relationships and invaluable contacts with leading professionals. I was very pleased to find that the program opened up opportunities for me not only in Frankfurt, but also in London where I have since received job offers from two of the ILF’s sponsor firms, one being the firm with which I did my ILF internship. The LL.M. Finance degree was worth every penny, and I would highly recommend it to anybody seeking to improve their career opportunities and broaden their network of international contacts.” |
Testimonial from ILF AlumniVokhidjon Urinov, Uzbekistan, Class of 2008, Ph.D. student"ILF is a dynamic institution that offers numerous avenues for pursuing an international legal career. It is a graduate program not only for legal practitioners but also for students who seek to do cutting edge research. One of the strengths of ILF is its enthusiastic and outstanding professors. My years at the ILF were some of the most progressive years in my academic career. The background knowledge I obtained at ILF proved to be crucial for my progress and fostered an opportunity to become a PhD student at one of the best universities. My current PhD research at McGill University is a continuation of what I researched at ILF. ILF professors and its administration rendered tremendous support for realization of my future scholarly plans. I appreciate their efforts in providing education for international students, especially for those who are coming from developing countries." |
