Study in Karlsruhe

Beauty and high technology

Today 270 000 people live in Karlsruhe the centre of the renowned “Technologieregion”, comprising one of the most dynamic high-tech areas in Europe. The local economy is based on a well-developed structure of mid-sized businesses, particularly in forward-reaching technologies like computer science, multimedia, control systems, energy technology and environmental science as well as nanotechnology. Several major companies such as Bosch, Siemens, DaimlerChrysler and Michelin have production facilities in the region. Major research and development institutions such the Karlsruhe Research Center for Technology and the Environment are part of the reason why the innovative potential of this city and region are well known world wide. A critical cornerstone is formed by the University and six other Karlsruhe institutions of higher education.

The city has also served as the home of justice in Germany for over 50 years. In 1950 the Federal Supreme Court began its work here as the highest authority in civil and criminal proceedings in Germany.

High Tech and High Life come together at the internationally recognized Center for Art and Media (ZKM), which is located in a historic industrial building and provides a unique museum of modern media.
