Programme

For more than thirty years, this course has been one of the enduring successes of The Robert Gordon University. The course is about recognising and understanding how information can empower individuals and societies. It has an excellent track-record in delivering outstanding student success, both academically and in terms of subsequent professional employment in the information sector.

It brings together a mixture of theory and practice that replicates activities found in the work place. Practically-based modules ensure that students learn all the skills necessary to pursue a successful career in information work. By completing this highly-regarded course, students attain not only a Masters degree but one accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (an accreditation recognised by other professional bodies around the world).

The course attaches strong importance to producing creative and reflective practitioners who are properly equipped with a broad range of managerial, professional and technological skills and knowledge to enable them to become the next generation of library managers.

Through the taught modules and the fieldwork placement (which consists of four weeks practical experience in an appropriate library or information service) students are provided with both the theory and practice of library and information work.
