Programme

It is often commented that the key asset to any business is its employees. The management of the human resource is therefore a central aspect to business worldwide and it is not surprising that the career opportunities or Human Resource Managers are extensive and varied in the public and private sectors of the UK, EU countries and globally. The course provides a gateway to membership of the CIPD which is highly valued and widely accepted as a requirement of practice by employers throughout the UK and increasingly abroad.

The Postgraduate Diploma has been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the UK’s professional body for personnel and development specialists, since 1980. The course was successfully re-accredited in May 2004 with no conditions. This course is currently delivered in full time and part time mode, and in June 2005 was successfully CIPD accredited for online delivery. Students who attain the Diploma become Graduate Members of the CIPD.

The course aims to develop practitioners who are capable of making an immediate and effective contribution to the HR function within the organisation that employs them. The course is highly regarded by the HR community within the Aberdeen and North of Scotland area and has the continuing support of the North of Scotland and Islands branch of the Institute.

Emphases/Curriculum

As one of only a few accredited CIPD centres with CIPD authority to upgrade students to chartered membership on graduation, Aberdeen Business School delivers the postgraduate MSc in Human Resource Management in a range of study modes. The course is available by Full-time (3 semesters study in one academic year), Part-time (part-time day and evening study) and Online.

All students are required to complete an intensive induction programme prior to starting the course. Full-time students are required to attend a full week’s induction, part of which is common to all Masters programmes within the Business School, whilst the rest is specifically designed for the programme. This takes place the week before the start of the teaching semester, so that students do not lose vital study time. Part-time students are also required to attend an induction programme which is delivered on two evenings and continued in two one-day Saturday workshops.
