Programme

While the Latin American and Caribbean Countries experience a strong economic development, concerns on environmental degradation and contamination are continuously growing. The region faces serious challenges such as population growth, rapid urbanisation and industrialisation processes which require efficient environmental policies and programmes with respect to the sustainable management of natural resources.

The international master programme “Environment and Resources Management ENREM“ aims to qualify young professionals from Latin America and Germany to work successfully in the area of environmental management in an international context.

The programme draws upon the expertise and experience of the well established and accredited master programmes “Multidisciplinary Postgraduate Programme on Environmental Sciences - PMPCA“ (Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, UASLP) and „Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics - TERMA“ (Cologne University of Applied Sciences, CUAS). Both programmes are offered at interdisciplinary units of the two prestigious universities.

    Organisation

The changing conditions of a globalised world require flexibility and high quality in both teaching and research in higher education. The expansion of international scientific-technical cooperation is the appropriate answer to this challenge. For the development of the ITT-led project of establishing a “Centre for Natural Resources and Development”, the Cologne University of Applied Sciences was awarded “University Excellence in Development Cooperation”.

The ITT promotes development by providing instruction, research and technology transfer services. The ITT sees itself as an interdisciplinary, intercultural and international interface with the goal of enabling people of varying technical and cultural backgrounds the capacity for wide ranging cooperation and to promote cooperation at the university and post-graduate level. Via interdisciplinary courses and applied research in cooperation with partners in both Germany and throughout the world the ITT meets these goals.

UASLP (Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí) is the largest university in the state of San Luis Potosí in northern central Mexico, and located in the city of San Luis Potosí. The UASLP dates back to an old Jesuit college which was founded in 17th century, and 1859 transformed to the ‘Instituto Científico y Literario’. In 1923, the UASLP was established as the first university in Mexico to have autonomy constitutionally granted. The environmental Programme “Programa Multidisciplinario de Posgrado en Ciencias Ambientalesn PMPCA” at the UASLP offers postgraduate education. Main objective of PMPCA is the formation of highly qualified professionals and academics in the environmental sector.

ITT and PMPCA jointly conduct the master program ENREM. Studies will take place in Cologne and San Luis Potosí. Both cities have approximately one million inhabitants and offer a broad cultural spectrum. Cologne hosts two large universities, the University of Cologne and the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Their together more than 60,000 students contribute to the diverse and creative atmosphere of this vibrant city. Located c.360 miles northwest of Mexico City and also close to Guadalajara and Monterrey, San Luis Potosi is famous as an historic, colonial, cultural, and university center.
