ProgrammeGraduates of the Master Program Embedded Systems Engineering (ESE) are in a position to understand the design of integrated electronic systems and analyze and optimize the challenges and problem statements within these systems out of a holistic approach. They are familiar with central concepts of hardware design, software design and control theory and are capable to implement, amongst others, the optimization of integrated systems, the reduction of component sizes as well as production costs taking into account interdependencies. The graduates also master aspects of reliability and performance elevation of complete systems and are parallel able to identify complexity aspects und technical uncertainty factors and solve them with a methods-oriented approach. The skills acquired in the master program involve a unique combination of circuit- and systems design, system theory, state-of-the-art material science, as well as radio-frequency electronics and state-of-the-art analysis procedures and process signal theories. Those abilities are supported by necessary competences concerning the product development process and the multidisciplinary methods and innovation process knowledge. Next official start: March 2013; earlier start possible upon open places and request. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Siegel Leitung |
Target audienceThe program is optimized to train interdisciplinary system-orientated understanding and thinkingand will focus on:Fields of application are comprised of:
In order to understand the new perspectives of innovative technologies and materials it will become mandatory to train a whole new generation of engineers in this job profile as system architects. |

OrganisationThe HECTOR School of Engineering and Management, named after Dr. h. c. Hans-Werner Hector, the co-founder of the software company SAP, is the Technology Business School of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).The HECTOR School concept and the related programs were designed in strong cooperation with the industry board of the ID in 2004. This cooperation has contributed significantly towards the creation of six advanced executive degree programs offered at the HECTOR School. Our degree programs are tailored to the needs of the employees of expanding companies which are facing the challenges of competition and globalization. The ability to ensure that businesses are cutting-edge and capable of the rapid adaptability of processes is the most crucial challenge for companies today and the responsibility of their well-trained professionals. In order to be a successful manager in this environment it is essential to possess a profound understanding of technological intricacies, their implementation within complex organizations and a deep economical awareness of interdependencies in distributed networks. This necessary professional and methodological training is covered by our innovative degree programs at the HECTOR School designed for future Executives. |

Study in KarlsruheBeauty and high technologyToday 270 000 people live in Karlsruhe the centre of the renowned “Technologieregion”, comprising one of the most dynamic high-tech areas in Europe. The local economy is based on a well-developed structure of mid-sized businesses, particularly in forward-reaching technologies like computer science, multimedia, control systems, energy technology and environmental science as well as nanotechnology. Several major companies such as Bosch, Siemens, DaimlerChrysler and Michelin have production facilities in the region. Major research and development institutions such the Karlsruhe Research Center for Technology and the Environment are part of the reason why the innovative potential of this city and region are well known world wide. A critical cornerstone is formed by the University and six other Karlsruhe institutions of higher education. The city has also served as the home of justice in Germany for over 50 years. In 1950 the Federal Supreme Court began its work here as the highest authority in civil and criminal proceedings in Germany. High Tech and High Life come together at the internationally recognized Center for Art and Media (ZKM), which is located in a historic industrial building and provides a unique museum of modern media. |
