Programme

Arab countries are in different states of economic development.A common feature is the combination of badly designed institutions and an inadequately trained local workforce - two factors that represent obstacles to entering a path of sustainable economic development.

ECAR aims at training economists who will be able to analyse current economic conditions in the Arab region and to employ their education to contribute to potential solution concepts.

The focus on economic education is supplemented by an emphasis on the conveyance of intercultural awareness.

Direct experience of one’s subject of study is crucial: ECAR lectures are taking place in Cairo and the Master’s thesis can be written during a one-semester stay in the Arab Region.

How do I benefit from ECAR?
- Education in modern economics with a profound knowledge of the Arab economies
- Dynamic study environment through small class sizes and a regular exchange with teaching staff
- Key qualifications through application training, intensive tutorial work, and essay-writing
- Hands-on experiences and insights through extracurricular activities
- Employability through a combination of ready-to-use and theoretical components
- ECAR Master’s degree qualifies for job opportunities in the private and public sector
- Development of strong intercultural competences

Organisation

Philipps-Universität Marburg
Founded in 1527, this is one of the oldest universities in Germany, situated right in the centre of a beautifully preserved medieval town. At present there are nearly 20.000 students studying in Marburg – 12 percent of which come from all regions of the world. The Department of Business Administration and Economics consists of 17 tenured professors and about 50 additional staff members. Currently, more than 1,500 students are enrolled in various Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.

Study in Marburg

Marburg is a scenic town in the the centre of Germany. It is situated on the Lahn river and dominated by its medieval castle on the hill.

Life is not only about work, so the University also supports other activities: the language lab offers qualified courses as well as a self-learning-centre. The university sports centre offers over 30 different disciplines. Just like in sports, also in music: students and faculty sing in the uniCHOR choir or participate in the student symphony orchestra, the Marburger Young Philharmonic Orchestra or in the student BigBand. If you would rather participate in art passively you should visit the university’s museums and collections.
