Programme

In association with the University of Bradford (UK), TiasNimbas offers one of the very few accredited DBA programmes in Europe. The programme is of particular relevance to practising managers who, already armed with an MBA, wish to take their learning to a next stage. Our programme affords our students the best of two worlds: British and continental European academic excellence and a high-powered international outlook.

Holders of the TiasNimbas-Bradford DBA are permitted to use the title of Doctor. Although of equal standing as a PhD, the DBA is concerned with real-life business and managerial issues.

The DBA is a great opportunity to network in international network circles, to discover hidden depths, refresh your thinking and become an expert in your field of expertise.

Target audience

The TiasNimbas Doctorate of Business Administration is designed to develop reflective business leaders, capable of demonstrating a high level of professional expertise in dealing with the integrative and holistic nature of the management process. The programme was launched in 2001 and aims to make a significant contribution to the enhancement of professional business practise on the highest academic level.

Emphases/Curriculum

As a four-year part-time programme the DBA is for experienced business people who after several years in managerial positions wish to put part of their knowledge into a doctoral thesis.

The structure of the programme allowes candidates from all over the world to partake. It is a partly distant learning programme, a balanced mixture of guidance and support from different angles in residential sessions with a peergroup of about 20 doctoral students. Typically such a yearly cohort comprises at least 10 different nationalities.

The students are matched with their personal supervisor, who is a specialist in the area of his approved research project and who is a faculty member or an approved associate of the University of Bradford.

Practical relevance

All DBA students are professional Managers. The average age of these students is about 40 with a wide range between 30 and 62

Currently there are 71 students actively studying; 12 have already graduated (since 2001)
There are 36 different nationalities on the programme, from 4 different continents.
Each class usually consists of about 20 students and show about 15 different nationalities

	Year 1: four 3-4 day sessions: three of them in Bradford (UK), one in Bonn (D). All together 17 days of residential sessions Year 2 - 4: Peer review workshops; TiasNimbas offers 6 sessions per two days each per academic year. Students have to participate in at least two of these sessions per year. All together at least 4 days of residential session per year

Get the best supervisors

Our students are experienced business people. Most of them do not have any link to a university environment anymore.

Therefore: One of the first main problems prospect doctoral students are facing, is to find a supervisore who is interested in the chosen topic.

With TiasNimbas this is no problem anymore:
As soon as the student is accepted on the programme, it is the responibility of the DBA director to find that supervisor for the student. This supervisor will be a University lecturer with teaching experience in Management and also in successfully supervising doctorates. Their list of publications clearly identifies that person as a specialist in that research area. 99% of our supervisors are located in UK; most of them are professors from Bradford University.
